Ted Nguyent - Don't Vote

Ted Nguyent - Don't Vote (2014)

Philly punks, Ted Nguyent got this whole punk rock thing figured out.

From their pizza-themed magnum opus, Pizza & Regret, Ted Nguyent have know moved on to much more thought-provoking themes such as biology, stalking, why Dave (Grohl?) killed Kurt Cobain, the Philadelphia Parking Authority, and, of course, the Temple of Doom and what it would feel like if it was their body.

Iron Chic - Demo (2008)

Iron Chic is a pop punk out of New York that features members from other familiar names in underground pop punk like Small Arms Dealer, Latterman, Jonesin', Get Bent, and Capital.

The track, "Timecop" features vox by Matt Canino of RVIVR/ex-Latterman/ex-Shorebirds. Yes, Timecop as in the Van Damme movie, Timecop.

Jared Fairfield/Afraid - EMF (2012)

EMF is a split by Jared Fairfied and Afraid AKA Jakob Battick's new electronic project. To hear more from Battick himself about this project, check out the interview he did with Hilly Town's own, Kevin Steeves. Monday XXXIV

Happy Siete de Mayo!

Scooby-Doo pop punk/orgcore. Features members of Iron Chic, Small Arms Dealer and Jonesin'.

Laid-back math rock/post rock/twinkly stuff. They're not from around here.

Bleak metal. Very rough recording wise but for what it's worth, it was recorded with the help of Falls of Rauros and their rehearsal space, so that's pretty cool. They're from around here.

Snail Party - B.F.C.S.D. (2011)

Folk punk from people who dirty themselves up in Halifax. There's accordions, singing saws, bingos, string-y guitars, and a CocoRosie cover, and even a kit kat pizza at an orphanage. I don't know what that means but I want some.

"Ignorant Kids" is probably my favorite track, hands down.

Maths - MMVII (2008)

Maths is definitely one of the top screamo acts out there, in my opinion, not to mention one of the first real(ly good) screamo bands I started listening to along with Daitro and Houston We Have A Problem. That's probably why I started scratching my head as to why I have yet to post anything by 2/3 of the bands that got me started in this whole scream-y emotional mess. I'm talk about the genre screamo, of course. I wouldn't try to get all personal and weird on you like that. Anyways though, I figured that while an essential NFT post would be in order for the albums that really got me going, I figured I'd post this nice little gem from Maths that includes demos, DIY EP songs, a Jeromes Dream cover, bonus tracks and the very first song they ever wrote, "2356". Sorry I didn't have much to say other this today but I'm not in a big chit chat mood.

O Pioneers!!! - Neon Creeps

Man, I've been listening to this album all day and all I can think about is: how could I have forgotten how cool it was when I first heard shit a few years back? I was just going to throw it on to the Monday post this week but I figured that I could just write about it now instead of waiting a couple of days. Plus, I probably won't keep forgetting about it if it's right out here in the open and all.

O Pioneers!!! - Neon Creeps (2009)

O Pioneers!!! played their instruments loud and sang like they had to get a few things off their chest. Their sound could always seem to be connected to the oldies like Against Me!, Hot Water Music and (insert another band like Leatherface or The Broadways here), and while I'm usually a stickler about just comparing another band to something else instead of saying what they themselves sound like, I would have to agree with these comparisons. Do I have a problem with this? Nah, it's chill. All these bands had it going on and brought something really honest and emotional to the punk game. O Pioneers!!! just stayed true until the very end, unlike most of those other bands. True to their sound at least.

Neon Creeps has a lot of awesome things and sounds going for it despite almost everybody quitting on frontman Eric Solomon (including Chris Ryan who is the Chris Ryan from the song title, "Chris Ryan Added Me on Facebook") and initially becoming the last full length we would hear from them.

My favorite tracks would have to be: "Stressing the Fuck Out", "Cool Kid City", and "Saved By the Bell was a Super Good Show", you know, because it was! All the other tracks are super good too! Don't worry!!

O Pioneers!!! has since called it quits on existing but pretty much their whole discography is archived and free for everyone to enjoy.

Similar sounds/acts: Against Me!, Hot Water Music, Kudrow, Bomb the Music Industry!, Hard Girls, The Hold Steady if they went orgcore, Off With Their Heads and more Asian Man Records label mates.
