Tuesday

Like Monday... but on Tuesday.

Ittō - Ittō (2012)

Ittō play real basement hardcore, you know, as opposed to that fake stuff. This is their first album. Get to know this album and then check these spazzers out on the new 4-way dance coming out entitled The Sound of Young America. The split will include three other bands that aren't tied down to just being another "contemporary" hardcore or screamo band - Capacities, Innards, and Calculator.

Pre-order that thing I said you should check out above

Dore Mear Beon - An Ode to the Sacrificial Pigeons of the Holmdel Horn Antenna (2014)

Bird-influenced math rock from Ontario. An Ode to... is a follow-up to Dore Mear Beon's 2012 self-titled EP which included a very cool song that sampled the Richard Linklater film, Waking Life. Dore Mear Beon is definitely for fans of Time Columns, Enemies, Zefs Chasing Cara, The Bulletproof Tiger, as well as other one-person math rock acts.

Jerkagram - Tired Old Horseshit (2014)

This is Jerkagram's follow-up EP to their debut LP, Let's Talk About Us. If you like music, you'll really enjoy these three songs. Trust me.

Monday LXXX

Good to be back!

No, Boy - Was That It? Was That Really It? (2013)

Vancouver indie rock/punk/emo sensation from Vancouver. Lots of stuff about the city and staying cool.

I think.

Bummer - Kids on the Run (2012)

Bummer is also a band from Cananananada. Montreal, though.

I actually heard about these guys through one of my favorite bands (I got to see them this weekend for the first time!), Chalk Talk. They had just played with Bummer up north and brought a few couples of Kids on the Run in 45'' form with them to the show. I kick myself for not picking up a copy but promised I would check these Canadian punkers out. So here I am, checking them out. And so should you.

Because Chalk Talk said so. Because I said so.

Your body will thank you.

Milo - Cavalcade (2013)

Milo is not from Canada. He (Rory Ferreira) is actually from all over... starting off in a land called Saco, Maine. Milo now lives in Wisconsin, I believe, but that's not going to stop me from mentioning his roots in a very familiar town.

Milo is also not punk rock... Milo is that hip-hop stuff. Good and smart hip-hop stuff, too. Hip-hop that is often filled with references of another familiar thing to me - pro wrestling. An easy example of wrestling from this new mixtape, a follow-up to his past two EPs (things that happen at day and things that happen at night), is the distorted sample of Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig giving a promo to the champion at the time, the Ultimate Warrior. The sample opens up the 5th track, entitled, "ba al chiliagon swords" featuring YC the Cynic and is a top-notch number.

Other samples and guests of miscellaneous sorts include: America and their hit songs, "A Horse with No Name" and "I Need You", a speech about dogs and the language of dogs which I don't recognized, Nocando, the highly underappreciated and always impressive Busdriver, and a pig load more of samples he probably didn't get permission to use.

Get Cavalcade for free via Hellfyre Club right now!

... unless you don't want to listen to the next big thing... that's cool these days, too. I guess...

PS: I'm about to drink the Filipino chocolate energy drink, Milo. Hope it's as good.

Monday XXXXXXVII

That Monday where the pope quit.

Dore Mear Beon - Dore Mear Beon EP (2012)

Here's some Canadian math rock for ya. Apparently it's that sort of one man (Andrew Sagriff) math rock stuff which always makes me wonder if it's naturally done or with the help of fancy technically and newfangled computer magic. However it's created though, it still sounds great and right up my alley.

Track 2 features a sample from Richard Linklater's philosophical talky film, Waking Life. You know, that kind of talky film where you feel really smart afterwards and totally better than anyone else who hasn't seen it before.

Tawny Peaks - Tawny Peaks (2012)

I'm a bit surprised I haven't shared these guys before seeing how long I've been holding on to this self-title and such.

Recently, I rediscovered these guys on Spotify no less and have been getting to know their music a lot more than before. So here they are now!

Tawny Peaks play twinkly, sometimes acoustic - sometimes electric, sometimes male vocals - sometimes female vocals - sometimes both, emotional  music out of New Jersey.

Real Kind - Hard Red Winter (sketches) (2012)

Real Kind is the warm and fuzzy-feel moniker of Marissa Owens from Portland, Maine when she plays warm and fuzzy music.

A good friend of mine suggested I give Real Kind and her album Hard Red Winter a try - I did and it was a perfect accompaniment to my loner weekend stuck in Northern Maine thanks to that little snow storm we had. Ironically however, a folk show that I was invited to in Portland this weekend that was canceled due to Nemo, included... that's right... Marissa Owens!

This version of Hard Red Winter is just a "sketch" of what the real thing will sound like when it is officially released this April. Or maybe this is just an April Fools Day joke because this album is already perfect the way it is.

Whatever happens though, you'll be sure to hear about it right here on NFT.
