CZARFACE

CZARFACE - Inspectah Deck + 7L & Esoteric = Czarface (2013)

Czarface is literally (yes, literally) everything I look for in a hip-hop album - from sweet 90's beats, Wu-Tang Clan, comic book themes, and, of course, pro wrestling references AND samples. This bad boy featuring the duo of 7L & Esoteric and Inspectah Deck from Wu-Tang fame has all that good stuff I mentioned above and more. Plus, I'm not just taking about one song here: this album is a beginning-to-end banger stuffed with only the coolest things you can find in hip-hop without being nerd rap. Well, without being tacky nerd rap.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined a song of any kind would include a sample of the National Wrestling Alliance's first and only 80's tag team from 2002, The New Breed and their long since forgotten Transformers inspired promo. Alas it exists and therefore has to be one of my favorite things ever put in a song. The song is called "Czar Refeali" featuring Oh No of Gangrene and is only one of many more action packed numbers.

If I did have to pick just one song off of Czarface to draw someone in though, it would certainly be "Savagley Attacked" featuring the one and only, Ghostface Killah. If this song does not hook you in, I don't think we can be friends. I'll still talk to you, I guess, but we won't be hanging out or getting ice cream together any time soon. Check this out:

Other guests in this comic book on HGH include: Roc Marciano, Cappadonna & Vinnie Paz, Mr. MFN EXquire, and Action Bronson as well as sample appearances by Iron Man, Batman, Sam and Vincent from Ronin, George Carlin, Vince McMahon, Tony Schiavone, The Road Warriors, and many more.

Been chillin' since 93 'til...

NFT Presents: 1993

It's my birthday. This a birthday post. If you count back from 2011 to 1993 you can find out how old I am. Let's not get too personal; I'm only doing this to post music.

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (1993)

The album that introduced us all to our favorite characters: ODB (RIP), Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, GZA the Genius, RZA, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, U-God and that other guy...

This album came out 4 days before my birthing.

Still to this day it is bringing da ruckus.

Wu-Tang Ain't Nuthin to Fuck Wit.

Tom Waits - The Black Rider (1993)

The Black Rider may not be my favorite Tom Waits album or one I am really familiar with but it does have some really good instrumentation running through it. Plus it's Tom Waits. How can you go wrong?

The song, November is probably the most relevant song right now for me. I've been listening to all week.

Love me some singing saw.

The Black Rider is another one of those Tom Waits releases that were also a soundtrack for a play. This one being The Black Rider by Robert Wilson. Waits also provided music for Wilson's play Alice and Woyzeck. The music from each were than released as Tom Waits' Alice and Blood Money.

Beltbuckle - Judas Suicide (1993)

This 7 inch is the side project of Lou Barlow and Bob Fay of Sebadoh and Eric Matthews. It's a pretty sweet lesser known Barlow side project as well as a nice introduction to Eric Matthews. Not to be confused with the older brother on Boy Meets World.

All I really know about Eric Matthews (other then this project and his other project Cardinal) is his rock n roll cover of Elliott Smith's Needle in the Hay.

Do not put things in your head

Wugazi - 13 Chambers

At first I was like that is pretty sick I guess. Fugazi + Wu-Tang. Two bands I never thought would be mashed up. Cool cool. But then as I opened the folder and sent the first MP3 to my iTunes, I heard that beautiful and quite familiar piano work under Raekwon's tight rhymes from C.R.E.A.M. and boy did it kick my ass. Maybe it's because "I'm So Tired" is my favorite Fugazi song or maybe it's just the well done engineering, but either way it was an awesome surprise. The rest of the album is just as promising!

Wugazi - 13 Chambers (2011)

I was a little hesitant at first because I also thought the Wu-Tang Vs. The Beatles mash up was a genius idea. Every time I listen to Enter the Magic Mystery Chambers though, I get a little bored and antsy in anticipation for things to stick together and fit but it doesn't really work itself out. Maybe it's the fact that I'm not too into the The Beatles tracks that the creator, Tom Caruana used or the fact that the beats aren't really very interesting and kind of slow (not that that technic can't always work). Most of the time I just end up wanted to listen to the originals. Which is fair.

But hey! look on the bright side: someday there could even be a Beatles + Fugazi combo (looking right now to see if there is...).

Unlike Enter the Magic Mystery Chambers, I think 13 Chambers is really well put together and actually has some choice Fugazi tracks. Along with the first track I'm So Tired, there's Suggestion, Waiting Room,  Forensic Scene, and I bunch more that I don't wanna give away (a.k.a. I'm lazy).

Found out about this album from someone on Facebook then re-found it on the much hipper and experienced blog than my own: Lyrics Will Not Reach the Audience
